Description: The Committee revisits the report, by its predecessor committee, the Transport, Local Government and the Regions Committee, "New towns: their problems and future" (HC 603-I, session 2001-02, ISBN 9780215004666) and the Government's response (Cm. 5685, ISBN 9780101568524). The earlier report identified the need for further work to be done to identify the special needs of the post-War new towns and to learn the lessons of these huge planning experiments for the future. The Committee finds the Government response to the recommendations to have been partial, half-hearted and inadequate. This report explains why the recommendations of the predecessor committee remain relevant and why they should be acted on.
