Description: This study by a group of independent experts on the problems confronting the capital markets of the Community as a result of implementation of the EC Treaty is divided in five parts. Part I discusses the European capital market, its foundation and the conditions and its development, structural problems common to the markets of the EC member countries, and existing links between capital markets. Part II discusses the conditions for efficient use of economic policy instruments in an integrated market, finance policies of public authorities and enterprises. Part III contains recommendations for widening the scope of the supply of medium- and long-term credit for industrial equipment and of lending to the housing sector and to local authorities. Part IV studies the conditions in which securities markets can be integrated and their contribution to the financing of investments increased. Part V deals with the removal of obstacles preventing equal access to the European capital market.
