Description: Traces the history of French publishing under the German occupation, discussing lists of forbidden books (including Jewish authors), activities of the censor, and the publication of propaganda (including antisemitic material). Vol. 1, pp. 108-153, "Les aryanisations", describe German and French measures against Jewish publishers. The Vichy Aryanization Law of 22 July 1941 required the liquidation of Jewish publishing houses or the transfer of control to non-Jews. Discusses the fate of Jewish publishing houses such as Calmann-Lévy, Nathan, and Ferenczi. An appendix in vol. 1 contains lists of forbidden books and other documents. Vol. 2 describes the purges and trials, between 1945-55, of French publishers and writers who had collaborated in these measures.
