Description: Letter, 10 February 1897 (Baltimore, Maryland), to professor Robert Means Davis, Jr. (1849-1904), who taught history and political economy at University of South Carolina, replying to his suggestion that Wilson author a text book on United Stats history, "I realize very keenly the unfairness to the South, the unveracity as history, of the existing text books, and I fear, as you do, the preparation and use of some partisan work on the other side," explaining that his time was currently occupied with writing a book on the history of the United States, noting his plans for "another big piece of work, in the study of politics," and commenting on the illness of Professor [Joseph] LeConte, "We felt it a prvilege to have him at Princeton" [A native of Georgia, Joseph LeConte (1823-1901), formerly taught chemistry and geology at South Carolina College, 1857-1869, and, with his brother John, was one of the founders of University of California at Berkeley].
