Description: The Minister of Canadian Heritage asked the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage in May 1994 to study the role of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in the multi-channel universe. On 26 August, he clarified what he expected this study to entail by specifically requesting the Committee to assess and make recommendations on the following matters: the role of the CBC in the multi-channel universe, including success criteria appropriate to Canada's public broadcaster; how the CBC plans to provide its mandated services within its projected financial situation; and, the impact of advertising as a means of funding he CBC and the feasibility of alternative revenue-generating mechanisms that could reduce the Corporation's dependence on advertising revenues. This document presents the committee's report.
